In the event of an emergency, call us. We can see you quickly to address and resolve the problem.
A true orthodontic emergency is very rare, but when it happens, our team is here for you. Loose brackets and poking wires are the most common problems that patients encounter. Call our office if you experience any problem with your appliance so we can help you avoid issues such as unusual dental movement or discomfort. Don’t let the problem go unresolved.
It is helpful to understand the different parts of your appliance when describing the issue to our team over the phone. This will help us to address the problem as quickly as possible. If any parts of your appliance have fallen off or broken completely, please hold onto them and bring them with you to your next appointment.
Temporary fixes can often solve the problem if you are unable to see us immediately. Placing wax over the problem area of a poking wire or bracket, for example, typically alleviates the discomfort until you can visit us. Clean tweezers or needle nose pliers can also be used to guide loose wires back into their bracket. We can talk you through solving the most common orthodontic problems. We are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist you.
The best way to avoid an orthodontic emergency is to prevent them by properly caring for your appliances. Avoid sticky, chewy, crunchy, or hard foods, and wear a mouthguard during physical activity. Maintain good oral hygiene habits, and pay attention to your orthodontic treatment so you can identify any problems in advance.
